Charles Barkley is going to jail

Hope they've got XXXXL jumpsuits in AZ, 'cause Charles Barkley is officially going to jail.Barkley just pled guilty to 2 counts of driving under the influence and pleaded "responsible" to running a stop sign for the December 31 incident in Scottsdale.Barkley was sentenced to 10 days in jail -- but will only do five if he completes an alcohol education program. Barkley was also fined $2,000.Barkley will begin his sentence on March 21 -- but it's unclear if he will serve time in Arizona's famed Tent City Jail, where they make the inmates wear pink.As for the gun cops say they found in Barkley's car on the night of the arrest -- no charges were ever filed.

Anger, stress may be linked to heart problems

(CNN) -- When you get angry, the stress isn't restricted to your head. New research shows that anger actually triggers electrical changes in the heart, which can predict future arrhythmias in some patients.

The study, published in the March 3 issue of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, may demonstrate a link between mental stress and sudden cardiac arrest, which causes more than 400,000 deaths every year.
Arrhythmias, which are heart rhythm problems, happen because of a malfunction in the electrical impulses in your heart that coordinate heart beats, according to the Mayo Clinic. The result is that your heart beats too fast, too slow or irregularly.
Some arrhythmias may increase a person's risk of stroke or congestive heart problems.
This study is relevant to people who have heart disease already, said study author Dr. Rachel Lampert, associate professor at Yale University School of Medicine.
"Perhaps if we treat them with something like stress management or anger management, we may decrease the likelihood of arrhythmias," she said.
Previous research has shown that the rate of sudden cardiac death increases when the population is collectively stressed, such as during an earthquake or war, Lampert said.
Other studies have also shown that if you ask patients about what happened before a heart attack, they'll most frequently say they were angry, said Dr. Charles Raison, psychiatrist and director of the Mind/Body Institute at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.
"It is just indisputable that negative emotionality -- especially anger and misery, depression -- are terrible for your heart," he said.

Researchers looked at 62 patients with implantable cardioverter-defibrillators, devices that monitor heart rhythms and emit painful shocks in response to dangerous rhythms.
The patients were asked to describe a time in the previous couple weeks when they felt angry or aggravated, and were prompted with questions to describe the moment vividly. Researchers looked at the heart's electrical stability through a measure called T-wave alternans.
"Overall in the group, when we did the anger recall protocol, the group as a whole showed an increase in electrical instability," Lampert said.
Researchers then compared the top 25 percent of people -- those who showed the most instability -- with the others in the group and found that the the ones with the highest instability in the lab were 10 times more likely to experience an arrhythmia sometime in the next three years.
The idea could be used as a predictive test for people who are unable to take an exercise-induced electrical stability test, Lampert said.
More study is needed to see how the mental stress test relates to traditional exercise testing, said Dr. Eric Rashba, professor of medicine at Stony Brook University Medical Center in Stony Brook, New York. Rashba was not involved in the study. The new test may be useful in combination with the exercise test, he said.
While this is an early study with a small sample size, it is the first time this type of anger or emotional stress testing has been shown to correlate with future arrhythmias, he said.
Exercise elevates heart rate much more than mental stress does, meaning the effects of mental stress on the heart may be caused by adrenaline impacting the heart cells, the study authors said.

In a follow-up study, Lampert and colleagues are taking patients with implantable defibrillators and giving them stress management therapy to see if the likelihood of arrhythmias decreases.
Anger management has two major components: behavioral and pharmacological, Raison said.
Within the behavioral approach, one strategy is to help people understand the reasons behind their anger, including the anger that they had in childhood, which may carry over to adulthood. After going through this therapy, people have a better sense of what happened to them in their lives and stop associating everything with upsetting events from the past.
"They stop looking at the present constantly through the eyeglasses of the past, and when that happens, the things in the present don't anger them that much," he said.
Another strategy involves exploring ways to more constructively deal with anger. The Mayo Clinic offers these anger management tips, which include taking a "time out," working with the person who made you angry, forgiving others and keeping an anger log to identify circumstances that make you angry.
Meditating and exercise are other ways to reduce anger, Raison said.
There is also evidence that certain drugs that work for depression, called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, make people who don't have depression less irritable, Raison said.
Still, more work needs to be done to demonstrate an underlying causal relation between heart problems and anger, or, alternatively, if there is a third factor that causes both -- for example, inflammation plays roles in both cardiac disease and anger, he said.

I enjoyed my weekend!

Quote of the post:
"The talent for being happy is appreciating and liking what you have, instead of what you don't have." -Woody Allen

Well on Friday I was so exhausted with all the school work I had from last week! I was so ready to get home to Northeast Texas it was ridiculous. Anyways I left school around 4 made it home around 9:30. I spent the entire weekend with my Mom and it was FUN!! I always enjoy spending time with my Momma, because we always give each other advice. She is the best Mom ever and I can't wait until I'm rich and able to take care of her! Moving along, Saturday night I went out to eat with Shamekia, Kadrion, and Chelsey! It was fun, because we went to Texas Roadhouse (everyones favorite steakhouse) and had dinner, and then we went to watch a movie afterwards. The food was amazing (as usual), but our waiter was a jerk. At first I started to be a jerk back, but I decided to kill him with kindness. It always work, and it did. Next we went to watch "My bloody Valentine" in 3D! Big mistake considering that my eyes were sore the next day, as well as today. I just took medicine to ease the pain and now my eyes feel a lot better. Oh on Sunday, my Mom and I ate Pizza and Ice Cream! So not good for you! hahah but it was amazing! That pretty much sums up my weekend i'm going to sleep people have a good night!

Breakfast can help keep you lean....

What exactly is it about breakfast that makes it so beneficial? And are all are breakfasts created equal? A study from Pediatrics, published in March 2008, looked at 2,000 teenagers and found that teens who ate breakfast weighed less, exercised more and ate healthier food than their classmates who didn't eat breakfast.

Questions and answers
Are all breakfasts created equal?

Dr. Sanjay Gupta, chief medical correspondent: No, all breakfasts are definitely not created equal. We talked to an expert at the American Dietetic Association to help us "grade" a few popular breakfast options. Let's start at the bottom with a breakfast that would get a "C" average grade: Fast food breakfast sandwich, pastry or sugary cereal.
These foods get a "C" for a number of reasons. The types of fat in these foods are the bad fats, and it certainly is not balanced. These foods are going to be high in sugar and carbohydrates and low in fiber and protein, which are essential for a balanced breakfast.
Let's flip to the foods that get a "B" average grade: bagel, breakfast bar, breakfast shake or pancakes with syrup.
These foods are a good start but aren't quite there. Take, for example, the breakfast shake: Many people blend up some milk and fruit. Although it's healthy for you, to make it a complete meal, you should add a peanut butter sandwich on whole wheat bread.
OK, now for the winner, the "A+" breakfast: oatmeal with skim milk, a half-ounce nuts, berries and orange juice.
This is the ultimate breakfast because you've got a whole grain in the oatmeal, a protein in the skim milk, heart-healthy fats in your nuts, and the berries are a great source of antioxidants. You can wash the meal down with a nice glass of orange juice, which is loaded with vitamin C and potassium. Remember that you should be consuming a significant amount of calories at breakfast -- around 500, depending on the person. Eating a hearty breakfast will keep you full for several hours and prevent you from snacking at that morning meeting. And important to remember: If you wake up and are not hungry in the morning, it is a big indicator that you are overeating at night.

Chris Brown's Official statement!!

Finally, Chris Brown has just issued an official statement through his spokesperson concerning the assault situation with Rihanna . This is indeed a real statement and not a hoax like others have been posting from fraudulent Facebook/Myspace pages. The statement was issued directly to media outlets from his PR reps at Sitrick And Company, Inc. It reads in its entirety:

“Words cannot begin to express how sorry and saddened I am over what transpired. I am seeking the counseling of my pastor, my mother and other loved ones and I am committed, with God’s help, to emerging a better person. Much of what has been speculated or reported on blogs and/or reported in the media is wrong. While I would like to be able to talk about this more, until the legal issuess are resolved, this is all I can say except that I have not written any messages or made any posts to Facebook, on blogs or any place else. Bad Friday, was a Good Friday!!

Quote of the post:
“Don't rely on someone else for your happiness and self worth. Only you can be responsible for that. If you can't love and respect yourself - no one else will be able to make that happen. Accept who you are - completely; the good and the bad - and make changes as YOU see fit - not because you think someone else wants you to be different.” -Stacey Charter quotes

So today was a pretty good day! Although it's typically supposed to be a very bad day! I didn't get enough sleep last night I must say, but I managed to wake up on time for class. Thank God! I had a good day at school today :)! Today in Interpersonal Communications my roommate and I had to teach a lesson that we were not prepared for. Somehow we managed to get through it and did exceptionally well!! I didn't do too much of anything today just chilled pretty much! Now i'm abouts to shower and watch a movie... Good Night :)!

Red meat linked to higher metabolic syndrome risk....

A study says eating too much red meat can increase your chance of getting conditions that lead to heart disease and diabetes. Middle-aged people who ate at least two servings of meat per day increased their risk of metabolic syndrome by 26 percent. The research was published in the January 22, 2008, issue of Circulation.

Questions and answers:
What did the study find?

Dr. Sanjay Gupta, CNN chief medical correspondent: This study says metabolic syndrome is a problem in the United States because of the way we eat: lots of red meat, lots of processed meat, and too much fried food. Researchers found eating two servings of meat per day, such as burger patties, increased the risk of metabolic syndrome by 26 percent. Forty-seven million Americans have metabolic syndrome, which means they have at least three risk factors for heart disease and diabetes. These include conditions such as obesity, high blood pressure, high sugar levels, and either too much bad cholesterol or too little good cholesterol.
Red meat isn't the only factor. Fried food led to a 25 percent greater risk, and diet soda increased the risk by 34 percent. This was unexpected, and it will require more research to explain. When it comes to red meat, the study doesn't say you should stop eating it. Just don't eat too much of it -- less than three servings per week. Red meat is an excellent source of iron, which is good for making red blood cells. And it has Vitamin B-12 -- you need this to keep your nerve cells healthy.

So how do we lower our risk of getting metabolic syndrome?

Gupta: This study found that dairy seemed to decrease the risk of metabolic syndrome by 13 percent. People who consumed three servings of dairy per day had lower risk when compared with people who had it only twice a week. You can also lower your risk factor by eating lots of whole grains, plenty of fruits and vegetables, and by exercising and not smoking.

Are there other foods you can eat besides red meat to get protein?

Gupta: Try eating fish or white meats such as chicken breast. These are lower in saturated fat, a food component that leads to high cholesterol. You can also get protein from beans, peas and lentils. Nuts are also a good source of protein.

Good Week!

So I've been pretty busy this week with school and stuff, so excuse me for not posting! However, my first article was published in the school paper on Wednesday. It was pretty good I guess, but they misspelled my last name. Oh well life goes on... I'm more content with the direction my life is headed! I'm such an adult and independent that I sometimes shock myself. I'm so proud of myself, because I lost 6 pounds since last Saturday! Say good job CARLTON! (Waiting for you to say it!)... Ok so my friends and I were discussing our plans in life and that really excites me to know that we all have a plan. I'm super excited for Shamekia's birthday dinner next weekend in Texarkana! I'm ready to get to NorthEast Texas! I miss my nephews and family so much.... Next Friday my Auntie is having surgery so keep her in your prayers :)! I still can not express how excited I am about NABJ because I know it is going to open so many doors for me in life. The organization as a whole I think is the best organization ever, well obviously if you're into Mass Media! I've been thinking about my internship next summer, and I have a choice of New York or Los Angeles! I slightly want to intern for Ellen Degeneres at her studio. I think it would be fun since she's so hilarious. I'm not looking forward to next week of school though I must say. I have 2 tests and presentations next week. Everyone is so worried about being single on Valentines day. I mean seriously you've been single before this day just get over it. I'm sure you can live through it! Well guys i'm going to bed today! Have a goodnight :)!

Chris Brown and Rihanna have Issues....

- Chris Brown just arrived at his hotel after leaving the police department.
Chris Brown was JUST RELEASED from the police station at 8:45 pm PT. He was let go on $50,000 bail and was accompanied by his attorney Mark Geragos.
Despite our earlier report that Chris Brown had been released from the Wilshire Division of the LAPD, it appears R&B star Chris Brown was still in custody as an investigation is ongoing in allegations of domestic violence felony battery stemming from an incident early this morning.
Just after midnight today, an unnamed woman called 911, after she and Brown fought in their car and then on the side of the road in the Hancock Park neighborhood of Los Angeles.
Booking reports from the LAPD show Brown was booked at 6:30 PM and sources say he is actually still in custody. (X17online.com)

Above, the couple was photographed at the Clive Davis pre-Grammy party last night -- Rihanna looking happy and beautiful as usual and Chris Brown, appearing a bit annoyed? Was something already wrong?

THE STORY!

Ok, here’s the low down we got from an extremely credible PR source on the ground at the Grammys. Said source tells TheYBF.com that the “car accident” story is false and is being used to throw everyone off. Rihanna is DEFINITELY the victim of domestic violence and is now pressing charges against her boyfriend Chris Brown as we speak. Early this morning while leaving Clive Davis’ party, the two got into a physical altercation in their limo and he punched Rihanna in the face. We’re told that’s when he/the limo dropped her at Hancock Park in L.A., and she ran and called 911. He left the scene and hasn’t been found since. We’re told Chris has until midnight tonight to turn himself in to LAPD. Otherwise, he will be arrested as soon as he’s spotted by an LAPD officer. We’re told Rihanna is definitely in the hospital recovering as we speak. (www.theybf.com)

Michael Phelps caught with a bong!

Yeah, the Super Bowl and Australian Open were this weekend. But the other big story coming out of the sports world was a little less feel-good. Photos of Olympic superstar Michael Phelps were published in the British News of the World tabloid over the weekend — pictures in which he’s smoking what appears to be marijuana from a glass bong.
In a statement, Phelps said he “engaged in behavior which was regrettable and demonstrated bad judgment. I’m 23 years old, and despite the successes I have had in the pool, I acted in a youthful and inappropriate way, not in a manner that people have come to expect from me.” He then promised it would never happen again. (mtv.com)

However I believe that Michael is only human, and you can't judge him from this encounter. If they didn't like what they were seeing then don't look! He's an adult, and what he do out of the pool is his business!

Picture below is the picture that leaked the internet and the world to harm Mr. Phelps...

Day off whoo hoo!
